Why Donate to Worldbuilders?

Our Goal Is To:

  • Encourage

people who otherwise might not think of donating to Heifer International.

  • Build

a community of like-minded book and game geeks who may not realize how much we all have in common.

  • Support

Heifer International so they can continue life-changing programs that pull families and communities out of poverty.

  • Prove

that people are awesome and will go out of their way to help others, no matter what background we come from.

Welcome to the WriMos for Worldbuilders Team Page of the Worldbuilders 2014 Fundraiser!

Worldbuilders is a geeky, book-centered charity working to make the world a better place! If you can spare a few minutes from your hectic writing schedule to donate, you'll be entered into Worldbuilders' lottery which contains thousands of books, and if you donate through Team WriMo, you'll also be eligible for some exclusive prizes.

WriMo Exclusives

  • $500 raised: One Critique by Douglas Hulick. Douglas has been a member of a writer's group (the Wyrdsmiths) for over 20 years, so he knows critiquing. He will offer a critique for up to 10,000 words, and will include both in-text comments as well as an overall discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the submission.
  • $1,000 raised: One critique by The Wyrdsmiths. 7 writers (all pros) will critique a manuscript and include a recorded audio critique session as well as a manuscript mark-up. More info to come on this one!
  • $1,5000 raised: One Critique by Téa Obreht. Author Téa Obreht will happily critique up to 15,000 words of fiction—either short stories or a novel-in-progress or a totally amazing combination of both—and provide written commentary within 90 days of submission.

Here's how it's going to work: At the end of the fundraiser (December 15), we'll draw names from our own small pool of donors here on the WriMo page, drawing one winner for each unlocked prize. Every $10 donation will give you one ticket for the drawing, so $30 will get you three tickets, $120 will get you twelve tickets, and so on. Obviously, the more you donate, the better your chances of winning!

Even better, each donation will also enter you into the Worldbuilders lottery, meaning your donations have much more bang for their buck. You will be in a drawing for both the NaNoWriMo-specific prizes, as well as all of the coolness from Worldbuilders, so you could potentially win a ton of cool stuff.

Let all your WriMo friends know, or any other writer friends who want to dust off their manuscripts. If you aren't able to donate right now, we can still reach our goal if you share this page on Facebook and Twitter, or send an email to anyone you know who might be interested. If you link back to my page, I'm sure we can reach our goal in no time!

Thank you so much!
