Why Donate to Worldbuilders?

Our Goal Is To:

  • Encourage

people who otherwise might not think of donating to Heifer International.

  • Build

a community of like-minded book and game geeks who may not realize how much we all have in common.

  • Support

Heifer International so they can continue life-changing programs that pull families and communities out of poverty.

  • Prove

that people are awesome and will go out of their way to help others, no matter what background we come from.

This year, The Sci-Fi and Fantasy Book Club is pleased to hold its fourth annual Worldbuilders Charity Drive. I know we all have our own favorite charities and priorities for how and where we give, but this is a great cause, a chance to win some amazingly cool stuff, and a way for our book club to make a real impact together. Last year we raised over $6,700, and I'm sure this year will be even higher!

While any amount you donate will be a huge help to a family in need and to our fundraiser, we've set the following donor levels (and of course, they're fantasy and sci-fi-themed):

  • Dragon - $1,000 or above
  • Unicorn - $500
  • Gryphon - $250
  • Tree-Cat - $120
  • Flock of Fairies - $60

We're going to set incremental fundraising milestones, and each time we cross one, the leadership team will unlock a 'prize' or special treat for our membership, and we'll raise our target to the next level.

Our final target milestone is $15,000. The fundraiser is only expected to run into mid-December this year (much shorter than previous years), so please don't delay in participating.

  • $1,500 raisedVijay will perform a dramatic reading of robo-erotica (yes, you read that correctly) at December's Feast on 12/14! Achievement Unlocked!
  • $3,000 raisedThe Leadership Team (as well as Jason, the manager at Houlihan's) will dramatically perform a song together at Karaoke Night on 1/31. Right now we're thinking of a Bon Jovi song or Queen, but we're open to suggestions. :) Achievement Unlocked!
  • $4,000 raisedAnna M has generously offered to make bags of treats (homemade chocolates and candies) for December's Feat on 12/14! Achievement Unlocked!
  • $6,000 raised: We'll commission some amazing book club apparel or gear that you can pre-order. Currently, we're considering a t-shirt, a folding outdoor chair, or a tote bag. Achievement Unlocked!
  • $7,500 raised: We'll commission a book club calendar with all of our 2015 event dates that you can pre-order. Achievement Unlocked!
  • $10,000 raised: When we cross this milestone, your leadership team will replicate a fantasy cover pose, this one in fact. Your eyes will never unsee. :) Achievement Unlocked!
  • $12,000 raised: Your Leadership Team will re-enact/revise a handful of iconic sci-fi and fantasy movie scenes (the movies to be selected by you through a poll, could include Star Wars, Star Trek, Back to the Future, Princess Bride, etc.). We haven't yet decided whether this will be more entertaining to do live or as a video, so stay tuned. We're hoping to have this ready by early spring. Achievement Unlocked!
  • $15,000 raised: Get ready for a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots deathmatch between Vijay and Wes, with mockumentary-style interviews and training montages, sports commentary, unsavory bookies, and more. It'll be REAL STEEL without the special effects, family-friendly message, or Hugh Jackman's good looks. This will be epic, or at least really entertaining. This will most likely be partiallly a video and partially a live 'fight' at one of our events in the late spring or early summer. Achievement Unlocked!

Just a reminder, your donation goes directly to the Heifer International, but by donating through this page your contribution will count towards our fundraising goal, and you'll be entered into the Worldbuilders lottery for amazing prizes!
